6234 Black Heavy Spiked Frame Hinge – Wide-Span Spike Tabs for Thick Moulding

The 6234 Black Heavy Spiked Frame Hinge is engineered for thicker picture frame mouldings and heavier panel applications where the standard 6229 hinge body is too narrow for reliable spike distribution. The 18mm wide body spans more of the moulding cross-section, distributing load across a wider spike pattern.

Wider Body Design

At 18mm wide (vs 14mm for the 6229), the 6234 Black Heavy Spiked Frame Hinge places spike tabs further from the panel edge, engaging the denser wood fibres in the moulding core. The 12mm viewing hole provides easy positioning during installation.

Installation

Orient spikes against the moulding edge at the corner or mid-rail, align with the joint line, and drive home with a single mallet stroke. The wider spike base resists rocking during installation for a cleaner result.

Applications

Thick walnut or oak picture frames (18–30mm moulding depth), canvas stretcher bar corner joins, heavy shadow box assembly, and structural panel partition joins where the narrow 6229 provides insufficient coverage.

When to Choose the 6234 Over the 6229

If your moulding width exceeds 15mm, the 6234 Black Heavy Spiked Frame Hinge is the better choice. Its larger spike footprint reduces the risk of the hinge body shifting during repeated gallery re-hanging and vibration exposure.
